you say goodbye …
On January 01, 2009 in Uncategorized
and i say hello. to a new blogging space, that is. quite honestly, despite my attempts to make this space fit who i am becoming, it just isn’t working. i’ve changed so much in the past few months, and this space is the old me. so i’ve moved, and i’m inviting you all to join me.
first, there’s Craftivist. it’s my personal blog, and the space where i’ll be discussing my crafting time in depth. much more reflective of who i am becoming, this space will feature not just my forays into craft, but also tons of great craftivist links and ways to give back, not just in your community but also in the world. i’ll also continue the “finding your creative” posts here, as well as wedding-related blogging.
then there’s Everyday Etsy. i find myself marking more and more etsy sites to talk about on this space, and am just giving in and blogging directly and solely about that. this is where i’ll do gift guides, but they’ll be based more around etsy than around what you can craft yourself. for those types of ideas, i suggest either following what i’m creating on Craftivist or heading to one of the many blogs i’ve now got listed in the sidebars.
the items on this site will stay up here as-is for one full month, and then i’ll be moving the complete archives to a free Wordpress site. it’s already set up, as craftandfound.wordpress.com, and the archives will live forever there, so you’ll always be able to find these items there.
i’m hoping you’ll all follow me to these new spaces, but if you choose to move on without me, i understand.
happy new year!
Dad’s Ski Cowl - Free Pattern!
On December 29, 2008 in Uncategorized
This super simple cowl is the newest pattern I’ve added to my personal blog and on Ravelry as a free pattern. Called “Dad’s Ski Cowl” thanks to the function of the piece, I made this for my dad, who loves to ski. It’s about to head to the post office as a belated Christmas present, and I wanted to share the pattern with you all!
A great pattern for the newer knitter, you’ll practice knit and purl stitches as well as knitting in the round and some color work (but nothing too fancy). I’m such a big fan of simple, mindless knitting patterns like this!

I love this hat! It’s got all these amazing features - the cabling, the glorious button, the subtle shaping the garter stitch gives the brim. The pattern is available free from Ravelry, so sign up and grab the pattern!

Yarn Dyed With Food Coloring?
On December 27, 2008 in Uncategorized
I love me some Leethal! Have I said that enough in the past few months? This lady is constantly coming up with some great ideas, the latest of which is dyeing yarn from a recycled sweater using food coloring (or Kool-Aid). She explains the whole process over at Craft Stylish, and I’m just about set to attempt this myself!
Felicity
On December 26, 2008 in for the head
I love love love this hat. Super simple looking, just enough slouch to keep your brain from being squeezed, and so easy to make, you can have one in every color. Felicity is found on Ravelry, and if you knit it in the suggested yarn, you’ll have a hat for less than $5! I also love that the hat is easy enough to be a First Project for a new knitter!!!
The Calm After The Storm
On December 26, 2008 in Uncategorized
Whew! Who else is just a tad bit relieved the bulk of the holiday season is over? All that fast crafting, the rush to get to everyone’s holiday party, the pull to do too much – it’s all done, and we can relax under blankets for a few days while we wait for the new year to settle in and take over.
This is the perfect time to cozy up under blankets, drink some hot chocolate by a fire place, and reflect on the year. I’ve already been making my 2009 goals lists over at my personal blog (tied in with my half-birthday, actually) – what about you?
For the next few days posting will be lighter here. With the push to get crafty for the holidays, it’s nice to take a step back, let the ground lie fallow for a bit, and just see what there is you want to plant for the next season (I’ve been reading gardening books). At chez CAF, there’s going to be lots of knitting and crocheting in the new year, and in blog CAF there’s going to be tons of new great features, including a blog of the day, some great “Finding Your Winter Creative” posts, and a larger focus on Etsy.
So enjoy these days to relax, post lightly and curl up to stay warmth. Once the new year kicks in, we’ll be back to going full force!
